The Angels continued to work on the fringes of their roster at the winter meetings, signing left-hander Scott Snodgress on Wednesday to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Snodgress, 25, was a starter for most of his four-year minor-league career with the Chicago White Sox, going 27-25 with a 3.84 earned run average in 98 games, 86 of them starts. He appeared in four big-league games last season, allowing four earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.

The White Sox moved Snodgress, who attended Yucaipa High School, to the bullpen late last season, and the Angels plan to use him as a reliever.

Snodgress, a fifth-round pick out of Stanford in 2011, held left-handers to a .196 average last season, but control seems to have been a problem. In 483 minor-league innings, he has struck out 381 and walked 196.
