Baseball: Jake Spillane of Mission Viejo throws fourth consecutive shutout

Share

One of the hottest pitchers in Southern California is 6-foot sophomore right-hander Jake Spillane of Mission Viejo. He threw his fourth consecutive shutout on Friday, beating San Clemente, 5-0, in a Sea View League game.

It was vintage Spillane _ he had one strikeout and zero walks. He has shutouts over Capistrano Valley, San Juan Hills, Trabuco Hills and now San Clemente to put the Diablos at 7-3 in league.

“He absolutely pitches,” Coach Chris Ashbach said.

Spillane is the son of former UCLA basketball player Jim Spillane, a member of John Wooden’s last championship team in 1975.
