Earthquake: 3.4 quake strikes near Niland, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.4 earthquake was reported Thursday afternoon 11 miles from Niland, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:21 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 1.2 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 21 miles from Brawley, Calif., 29 miles from Imperial, Calif., and 32 miles from El Centro, Calif.

In the last 10 days, there have been three earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
