California storms: Dramatic maps show impact of heavy rains
After sitting out much of the winter weather season, California is at the center of the action this weekend with a series of powerful storms.
Below are some maps that show the impact of the storms, which are the strongest in Southern California in two years.
Downtown Los Angeles received more than 2 inches of rain on Friday alone, more than it got for the entire rain season so far, which began in July.
The first map above shows the rain activity in California compared to the rest of the country.

More rain is in the forecast for Saturday and part of Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts thunderstorms, some hail, damaging winds and even the possibility of waterspouts and weak tornadoes on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
The final map below shows what the NWS said was “a weak tornado” near Walnut and Azusa early Saturday morning. No injuries were reported.
