A Los Angeles police officer was arrested near Castaic this weekend on suspicion of committing lewd acts with children, department officials said Monday.

Miguel Angel Schiappapietra, a six-year veteran of the LAPD, was arrested Saturday, said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Schiappapietra was arrested Saturday morning but would not elaborate on the exact nature of the crimes or what, if any, relationship the 28-year-old officer has to the victims.

Schiappapietra was off duty at the time of his arrest and was booked on suspicion of lewd conduct with children under the age of 14. There are at least two victims in the case, according to authorities.

The case is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit. He could be charged as early as Tuesday. Schiappapietra was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and held in lieu of $100,000.

Schiappapietra was most recently assigned to the Foothill patrol area. He is now on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal LAPD investigation as well as the ongoing criminal matter.
