One person was killed and dozens more were injured in two separate tour bus crashes Thursday afternoon on Interstate 15 on trips to and from casinos in northern San Diego County, officials said.

The accidents, one near Bonsall in northern San Diego County and the other in south Corona, both occurred about 2:30 p.m., officials said.

One person was killed and 19 injured -- six seriously and 13 moderately -- when a bus en route to the Valley View Casino overturned on rain-slicked, southbound I-15 near Bonsall, the CHP said.

Several of the injured were taken to hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Seven to eight other vehicles were involved, the CHP said. Two of the freeway’s four southbound lanes are closed. The bus is on the right shoulder of the freeway, still overturned.

In Corona, 22 of the approximately 35 passengers on a tour bus returning from the Pala Casino to Westminster were taken to hospitals, said Corona Fire Chief John Medina.

That accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the I-15 near Magnolia Avenue, he said.

There were no fatalities, but the extent of passenger injuries was unknown, Medina said. Two northbound lanes are closed, according to CHP logs.

[For the Record, 5:45 p.m PST, Dec. 19: A previous version of this post implied the buses were going to and leaving the same casino in San Diego County, but they were actually two different casinos.]
