Man charged in two assaults
A Santa Ana man was charged Friday with sexually assaulting two women at knifepoint in parking lots in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana, Orange County officials said.
Carlos Martinez, 28, will be arraigned next month on charges of rape and attempted murder of one woman and charges of sexual assault against another. He faces a maximum sentence of 80 years to life if convicted. He is being held on $1-million bail in each case.
In May, prosecutors said, Martinez was parked in a lot and offered a woman a ride to a motel, then pulled out a switchblade and ordered her to undress. He is accused of raping the woman and stabbing her.
In August, prosecutors said, Martinez drove up to another woman and grabbed her, held a 4-inch knife to her neck and forced her into his truck. He is accused of sexually assaulting the victim at knifepoint.
