City seeks eviction of 5 gang members
The Los Angeles city attorney filed a civil action Wednesday seeking to evict members of the Avenues street gang from a triplex in Glassell Park.
The court filing, which alleges gang narcotics sales constitute an unlawful business practice, also cites narcotics nuisance abatement laws. The city attorney wants the owner of the triplex at 3260 Drew St. to vacate the three units and seeks a 1,000-foot “stay-away” order against five gang members and the parents of one of the gang members.
“We are taking the fight against gangs to the where they live,” said City Atty. Rocky Delgadillo. “These neighborhoods are not their neighborhoods. They belong to hard-working Americans who are trying to make a better life for themselves.”
The Los Angeles Police Department has made 40 arrests at the property for narcotics violations, carjacking and other crimes, officials said.
The triplex is just down the street from another property the city attorney had boarded up recently, alleging it was a hangout for leaders of the Avenues gang. In that case, the city filed more than $100,000 in liens against the property for costs associated with investigating its misuse and securing it from gang activity.
On Wednesday, Delgadillo said his office filed papers to begin foreclosure proceedings against the property to recover the money from the lien.
