Three keys to the Kings’ 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks

Taking a look at three keys to the Kings’ 2-1 loss to the Sharks in Game 2 on Saturday:

1. After saying they took too many penalties in Game 1 and couldn’t repeat that, the Kings took too many penalties and paid for it. Milan Lucic was penalized for charging and Tyler Toffoli for roughing at 8:14 of the second period, and the Sharks used the five-on-three advantage to pad their lead to 2-0.

2. Marian Gaborik was in the Kings’ lineup for the first time since he sprained his knee on Feb. 12. He played on several lines while Coach Darryl Sutter tried to ignite some sparks. Gaborik had four shots on goal and had a burst of speed late in the second period to create a scoring chance but shot wide on a breakaway in the third.

3. Sharks goaltender Martin Jones stopped 27 shots by his former teammates. And yes, the Kings knew when they traded him to Boston last June that the Bruins probably would flip him to San Jose. “Boston did nothing underhanded,” Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi said in October.
