Toledo’s Aaron Opelt took apart Colorado’s defense through the air and on the ground, throwing four touchdown passes and running for two as he rolled up 428 yards of offense in Toledo’s 54-38 win over the Buffaloes on Friday at Toledo, Ohio.

Colorado (0-2) simply couldn’t stop the Rockets (1-1), who averaged just under 10 yards a play. Toledo amassed 624 yards on an overmatched, tired-looking Buffaloes defense that was pushed around by archrival Colorado State just five days earlier in a 23-17 loss.

Colorado scored a pair of quick touchdowns to make it 37-24 late in the third quarter, but Opelt scampered 61 yards early in the fourth to thwart the rally.

Colorado quarterback Cody Hawkins completed 30 of 64 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns -- but also threw three interceptions.

Snyder’s contract extended

Bill Snyder agreed to a five-year contract with Kansas State, giving the 69-year-old coach the opportunity to pull off another reclamation project after the program he built unraveled under Ron Prince.

Snyder will be paid a base salary plus supplemental licensing payments totaling $1.85 million this season, $1.875 million next season, $1.925 million in 2011-12, $1.95 million in 2012-13 and $1.975 million in 2013-14.
