Injured rookie Kopitar skates in a light workout

Kings’ rookie center Anze Kopitar took the ice for the first time in nearly three weeks Sunday, going through a light workout at the Toyota Training Center.

Kopitar, third among rookies with 56 points, has sat out the last nine games with what team officials are calling a back injury.

He spent 40 minutes on the ice, skating and taking shots at goaltender Dan Cloutier, who is rehabilitating from hip surgery.

“I’m working with the doctors on a strength program, but they haven’t told me yet if I’m ready to do more on the ice,” Kopitar said.

With center Ryan Getzlaf notching an assist on Dustin Penner’s first-period goal, the Ducks have six players with at least 50 points for the first time in franchise history.

Getzlaf joined Teemu Selanne (86), Andy McDonald (71), Scott Niedermayer (62), Chris Kunitz (55) and Chris Pronger (53) in the 50-point club. Only Buffalo and Nashville have more 50-point scorers (seven each).

The Ducks had five who reached that level in 1998-99 when Selanne, Paul Kariya, Steve Rucchin, Fredrik Olausson and Marty McInnis did it.

The Ducks finished their eight-game homestand at 6-1-1, marking the best record of seven games or more. They’ve had two previous 4-0 homestands and went 5-1-1 in 1995-96.

With Alexander Frolov’s 34 goals and Michael Cammalleri’s 31, the Kings have two 30-goal scorers for the first time since 2000-01 when Ziggy Palffy and Luc Robitaille reached that mark.... The Kings signed winger Raitis Ivanans, 28, to a one-year contract extension.... Nick Nickson, the Kings’ play-by-play announcer on radio, missed the game against the Ducks because of an illness. It was the first game Nickson has missed since Feb. 17, 1986, when his son was born.
