Reggie Bullock shines in Clippers’ Las Vegas Summer League debut

LAS VEGAS -- Reggie Bullock made his first shot Friday afternoon, an indication of what was to come for much of the Clippers’ opener in the Las Vegas Summer League.

The shooting guard, who was the team’s first-round draft pick last month, finished with 18 points on eight-for-15 shooting during the Clippers’ 90-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at Cox Pavilion.

Bullock was serenaded by courtside chants of “Reggie! Reggie!” after making a jumper in the first quarter and again after blocking a shot later in the game.

“That was pretty cool to be able to come from the college and seeing the Clippers play on TV and actually hearing their fans chant your name; it was a special moment for me,” Bullock said. “But at the same time I’m humble, and I’m going to continue to work.”

The former North Carolina standout did some cheering of his own, standing to applaud a three-pointer by sharpshooter Scott Wood, a former rival from North Carolina State.

“We’re teammates,” Bullock said. “We put the college stuff behind us. We had battles back then, but at the same time he’s my teammate here, so I hope every shot he shoots goes in.”

Wood struggled, making only two of seven shots and one of four three-pointers, but Clippers forwards DaJuan Summers and Samardo Samuels each scored 15 points, overwhelming their Hawks counterparts for much of the game. Backup point guard Jerome Randle (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Clippers.

Bullock displayed some solid defense, blocking a shot by Jared Cunningham straight up into the air before grabbing the ball. But there were a few sloppy moments as well, such as when Bullock’s pass for Maalik Wayns on a fast break was too strong and went out of bounds.

Clippers stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were among the courtside spectators for Bullock’s debut with the team.

John Jenkins led the Hawks with 24 points.
