Las Vegas: Circus Circus is more animated than ever

And now, it’s time to shine a little bit of light on the other end of the Las Vegas Strip -- you know, the other end that doesn’t include the Aria, Mandarin Oriental and the Cosmopolitan.

Circus Circus, the 3,767-room hotel-casino where you can see big-top performers, has just given about 1,900 of those rooms a face lift, with new decor, flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi.

In searching rates, I found the redone rooms for as little as $60 a night for a Sunday-Tuesday stay (March 18-20) and as high as $222 for a Friday-Sunday stay (April 20-22). Info: Circus Circus, (800) 634-3450.

While you’re there, don’t be surprised if you run into Wile E. Coyote, the Road Runner or Pepe Le Pew -- at least, in spirit.

The hotel-casino last month opened the Chuck Jones Experience, named for the Oscar-winning animator and artist who helped make those and many other cartoon critters, including a certain wascally wabbit, household names.

Jones died in 2002 at the age of 89. But his genius lives on in this 10,000-square-foot area, where visitors will find a Chuck Jones Center for Creativity (think of a classroom with teachers who urge and inspire creativity); a brief film about Jones and an introduction to his works (the characters probably need no introduction); and a replica of his studio, among other features. And what Chuck Jones experience would be complete without an Acme experience? In this case, it’s the Acme Workshop where you can add the sound effects and voice that turn a toon into a treasure.

Admission to the Chuck Jones Experience is $19.95 for adults, $14.95 for kids 5-17 and seniors 65 and older, and free for kids younger than 4. Info at the Chuck Jones Experience.
