Avoid hassles and pack light

In the article “To Get Holidays Off the Ground, Prepare for Stormy Weather” (Travel Insider, Dec. 22), you suggested that the couple going on a cruise pack a toothbrush in their carry-ons. Why not suggest that they take only carry-ons for a four-night ship trip? People can avoid problems and save time by not checking their luggage. I am amazed how much stuff people take when they travel by air.

My rule of thumb is, if you can’t take it as carry-on, you are taking too much. This works for most of my trips, including weeklong cruises and multi-week trips to Europe.
