Have you ever wondered how letters to the editor at the Los Angeles Times are reviewed, selected and edited for publication? What makes one letter likelier to run than another? Do we only pick letters we agree with? How long do we hold letters before we run them? How often may a writer appear in our pages?

While it may not always be apparent, there is a rational process we follow to put together the letters page. In March, we plan to help readers understand how it’s done by answering questions about letters in the newspaper and online.
