Loretta Lynn
is pulling out of her scheduled appearance at next weekend’s Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio, citing ongoing recuperation from recent knee surgery, festival officials announced Friday. The procedure has forced her to cancel several other dates on her 2011 tour as well.

Kris Kristofferson will take over the slots Lynn had been slated to play on April 30 and May 1 at the Empire Polo Field. The veteran singer-songwriter-actor is becoming something of an all-star reliever in pop music. Last fall, when blood pressure troubles caused Merle Haggard to miss his scheduled performance at Neil Young’s Bridge School benefit concerts in Northern California, Kristofferson took over for Haggard.

It will be Kristofferson’s first appearance at Stagecoach since the inaugural event four years ago. Dates and times for each day’s performances will be announced next week. This year’s festival is headlined by Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts.
