There was only one moderate suprise in the lineups for tonight’s Game 2 of the American League division series between the Angels and Red Sox. Alex Cora, who has two hits in three career at-bats against Angels right-hander Ervin Santana, got the start at shortstop for the Red Sox over Jed Lowrie, whose error in Game 1 -- his first in 50 games at shortstop this season -- led to an unearned run.

As expected, Boston Manager Terry Francona moved first baseman Kevin Youkilis to third in place of Mike Lowell, who is badly hobbled because of a right hip injury. Mark Kotsay, an outfielder by trade, will start at first base, a position he played only six times this season.

The move should improve the Red Sox defensively at third but hurt them a bit at first. Offensively, Kotsay has a .389 career average (7 for 18) against Santana.

Angels Manager Mike Scioscia, as expected, went with catcher Jeff Mathis over Mike Napoli and replaced right fielder Gary Matthews Jr., who lost a ball in the lights for a three-base error in Game 1, with Juan Rivera.
