It appears Rio Mesa’s girls’ tennis team is pretty well stocked in the motivation and talent departments. After all, the Spartans are off to a 6-0 start and are keen to show the rest of the Division IV title contenders that they mean business this fall.

But that didn’t prevent a couple of Rio Mesa’s most famous, tennis-playing alumni from making an inspirational visit during the Spartans’ 15-3 Pacific View League victory over Camarillo on Tuesday.

Bob and Mike Bryan -- you know, the 30-year-old twins who captured their second U.S. Open doubles title last month -- visited their old school and shared some tips and autographs with players from both teams, according to the Ventura County Star. Mike even umpired a doubles match.

It’s good to see the Bryan brothers haven’t forgotten their roots. I’m sure the kids really appreciated them stopping by, and it’s great that they’re maintaining a presence in their community even though they are the top-ranked doubles team in the world.
