Softball: Los Alamitos 14-under team wins Western national title

The Los Alamitos Red 14-under girls’ all-star softball team won the Western National Championship on Aug. 1 in Kaysville, Utah, by defeating the Utah Thunder, 11-3 in the title game.

Los Alamitos won its first seven games in the 39-team event to become the only undefeated team to reach the championship round. That meant Utah Thunder would have to beat Los Alamitos twice to win the double-elimination tournament. The Thunder won the first game, 5-4, before Los Alamitos won the decisive game by mercy rule in the fifth inning.
