The American Red Cross, which failed to meet its goal of 1,985 pints of blood Sunday at 20 donation sites in Los Angeles and Orange counties, will have six facilities open to potential donors today.

A Red Cross spokeswoman said 891 pints of blood were donated during the agency’s annual Save-A-Life Sunday in the two counties. In the San Fernando Valley, 197 pints were donated at St. Bridget of Sweden Church in Van Nuys and the Red Cross service centers in Van Nuys and Valencia.

The Van Nuys center, 14717 Sherman Way, and the Canoga Park Red Cross Center, 21001 Sherman Way, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today.

The spokeswoman said the blood drive is aimed at maintaining blood bank supplies to 200 hospitals during a time of year when donations are traditionally slow.
