Tamara McKinney of the United States won the women’s slalom at Maribor, Yugoslavia--her first victory of the season--and climbed into fourth place in the overall World Cup standings.

McKinney, 22, of Squaw Valley, Calif., trailed in fifth place with 42.04 seconds in the 47-gate first run. But she clocked the fastest time (42.02) in the 49-gate second run to win the event with an aggregate 1:24.06.

Czechoslovakia’s Olga Charvatova was second in 1:24.24, and Brigitte Gadient of Switzerland was third in 1:24.57.

McKinney has 66 points in the women’s standings. Maria Kiehl of West Germany leads with 88, followed by Erika Hess of Switzerland with 82 and Elisabeth Kirchler of Austria with 70.
