UCI Track Coach McNair Resigns to Become Consultant

UC Irvine track and field Coach Kevin McNair, who guided the Anteaters to three second-place finishes in the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. in his five-year tenure, has resigned to accept a job as a sports consultant.

McNair was named PCAA Coach of the Year in 1981, and his Anteater teams were ranked among the nation’s top 20 twice in the past three seasons.

Last year, he supervised the Olympic development of 110-meter high and 400-meter intermediate hurdlers in the western United States.

McNair leaves UCI to become a consultant to individuals, professional and collegiate teams in all sports with Advanced Athletics, a company based in Irvine. He is currently writing a book on the subject of human movement.

McNair will continue teaching at Irvine until mid-March. Assistant track coach Vince O’Boyle has been named interim head coach for the 1985 season. O’Boyle, also the Anteaters’ head cross-country coach, will be assisted by Danny Williams.
