A man whose body was found in the wreckage of a car in Lakewood was shot twice and did not die of injuries suffered in a traffic accident as was initially believed, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Mark D. Ellis, 30, of Lakewood was driving west on Carson Street near Country Club Drive, when he lost control of his car, veered into the eastbound lanes, jumped a curb and crashed into a light pole, Deputy Lynda Edmonds said. Edmonds said Ellis was initially believed to have died in the accident, but homicide detectives found otherwise. “The cause of death was definitely homicide,” Edmonds said. “The guy had two bullet wounds.”
