Valley Councilman Marvin Braude Thursday drew his first opponent, a Tarzana woman who is a political newcomer, in the April 9 Los Angeles city election.

Jo McCauley, who listed her occupation as president of a nonprofit corporation, filed a “declaration of intent” to oppose Braude in the 11th district, which extends south of the Ventura Freeway and west of the San Diego Freeway over the Santa Monica Mountains to include Pacific Palisades.

McCauley could not be reached for comment, but her husband, Lowell, a former president of the Tarzana Property Owners Assn., said his wife is president of the Calabasas Women’s Club.

In other races, northeast Valley Councilman Howard Finn drew two more challengers, bringing his opponents to three.

One is Elton (Skip) Michael, a Los Angeles police officer and Sunland resident who ran unsuccessfully for the council seat won by Finn in 1981 and was the losing Republican opponent of state Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Van Nuys) in 1982.

Louis Cichelli, a Sunland painter, also filed papers to run against Finn. It is Cichelli’s first try for public office.

Noel Horwin, former president of the Shadow Hills Property Owners Assn., had already filed to run against Finn.

School board member Roberta Weintraub also filed papers to run for reelection in the East Valley district. She faces two opponents so far, Mary Louise Longoria, an educational consultant from Arleta, and Al Dib, an Arleta businessman.

Filing of papers continues from 8 a.m. to noon today at City Hall and closes at 5 p.m. Monday.
