Pizzeria Robber Flees Amid Police Gunfire
An armed robber fleeing a San Fernando police officer Friday morning dropped his gun and the money from a robbery at a Sylmar pizza parlor but escaped in a waiting car amid a burst of gunfire, Los Angeles and San Fernando police said.
San Fernando Police Sgt. Edward Messia, a 15-year veteran, fired several shots at the robbery suspect as he fled through a field, climbed a wall at a condominium project and sped away in an unidentified vehicle, police said.
The suspect was believed to have been hit at least once, police said. One bullet also hit the rear window.
