Fullerton : High School Teachers Get Increases in Pay, Benefits

Share

High school teachers have received a 5.5% pay raise for the 1984-85 school year, plus a 4.5% increase in their benefits package.

The Fullerton Union High School District and the Fullerton Secondary Teachers Organization also agreed last week to a five-day extension of the school year, in keeping with recommendations in Gov. George Deukmejian’s educational policy, adopted by the Legislature last year.

The district and teachers agreed to limit classes to 38 students each, excepting performing arts, physical education and typing classes, which will be limited to 40 students. Until now, there were no size limits, Mann said.

Under the agreement, mentor teachers, who are chosen to instruct other teachers on a particular subject, will receive an additional $4,000 per year.

The average yearly salary of the 523 teachers at the district’s six high schools is $30,000, said Joan Mann, a district spokeswoman.

Administrators received a salary and benefits package totaling 8.38%.
