Thirty-seven visitors to the Peter Pitchess Honor Rancho near Castaic were arrested by sheriff’s deputies for, among other things, trying to smuggle narcotics, knives and other illegal contraband to inmates at the facility. Among the illegal drugs seized were 65 balloons of heroin, small amounts of PCP, cocaine and marijuana. Deputies periodically screen visitors to the 4,000-inmate facility to stem the flow of contraband. Some of the 37 arrested were taken into custody for other offenses, such as grand theft auto and interfering with the duties of a police officer, deputies said.
