A special election will be held on June 4 to fill the City Council seat made vacant by the death of Tony Van Dyke on Dec. 4.
The filing period for those interested in running for the office will be March 7 to 28, City Clerk Mary O’Neill said.
The filing fee is $25. Candidates who wish to have their campaign statements printed in the voters’ pamphlet must pay an additional fee, which has not been set yet, O’Neill said. The cost is determined by the number of candidates. The fee for the November election, in which 10 candidates ran for three open seats, was $175 each, she said.
Voters who need to register have until May 6. Council members will chose a new mayor from among themselves after the June election.
