California Runner Wins Manila Marathon

MANILA, Philippines —
Dennis Rinde led almost all the way in winning the Philippine Airlines Manila marathon with a time of 2 hours 23 minutes 8.69 seconds.
Rinde, 26, from Folsom, Calif., never was seriously threatened after he took the lead at the 1.2-mile mark. Jimmy de La Torre of the Philippines finished second with a time of 2:25:14. More than 1,000 runners competed.
