Showers, Cool Weather May Stay All Week
Northern storms are expected to bring more showers and cooler temperatures this morning, though skies should clear this afternoon, the National Weather Service said Monday.
The cold could turn rain to snow at Julian today and threatens to bring nighttime frost to some areas of the county later in the week, forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.
“I’ve already alerted the growers that if we get any clearing we might have very cold temperatures and frost conditions the latter part of this week. The air is getting colder and colder,” Shigehara said.
Two weather fronts moved south to San Diego on Monday, bringing night and morning rain. Shigehara said a third front moving south from Juneau, Alaska, could bring more rain to San Diego County late Wednesday or Thursday.
On Monday, gusty 20 m.p.h. winds whipped scattered rain showers throughout the county. By late afternoon, 0.78 of an inch of rain had fallen at Julian and 0.15 of an inch at Oceanside and Vista. There were traces of rain at Chula Vista and El Cajon. By evening, 0.23 of an inch had fallen at Lindbergh Field.
Temperatures at Lindbergh Field ranged from a low of 50 to a high of 60. In Escondido, they ranged from 42 to 58, and in Chula vista from 40 to 63.
Winds are expected to decrease today.
