Huntington Beach : Recent Bride Dies as Car Leaves Road, Hits Truck

Share

A young newlywed died early Tuesday after her sports car veered off Pacific Coast Highway and rear-ended a parked truck, setting off a four-car crash.

Lisa M. Mead, 24, of Huntington Beach had been married just three weeks. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Fountain Valley Community Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said she suffered massive head, chest and back injuries in the collision, which occurred about 2 a.m.

Mrs. Mead’s car was traveling west at a “high rate of speed,” police said, when it hit the parked truck about half a mile south of Warner Avenue. The impact sent the truck crashing into a disabled car, hurling it across the two-lane highway into the eastbound lanes.

Another car then rear-ended Mrs. Mead’s car. The driver, Konstantinos Maurovouniotis, 27, of Long Beach, was not injured. The Mead car was destroyed and there was moderate damage to the truck and the other two vehicles, police said.
