Angels Sue Anaheim for Revenues
The California Angels baseball team filed a civil lawsuit Thursday against the City of Anaheim, claiming that the city owes the team at least $136,535 in revenues from parking and concessions at Anaheim Stadium.
The suit, filed in Orange County Superior Court, said that the city has been “consistently late” in making payments owed for the 1983 and 1984 seasons.
The court action is the latest in the battle between the team and the city. The Angels filed suit in August, 1983, to stop Anaheim from developing a major section of the parking lot of the stadium, which is also home to the Rams football team.
The city then went to court and claimed that the Angels owed it money from revenue paid to the team by local television stations broadcasting home games. Last October, Fred R. Hunter, a lawyer and City Council candidate, sued the city for not disclosing how much taxpayer money it spent to defend itself against the Angels’ lawsuit. Hunter lost the election.
