White, O’Hara Are Athletes of Month

Larry White and Regan O’Hara were selected as Cal State Northridge Male and Female Athletes of the Month for January by the CSUN Athletic Council

White leads the CSUN basketball team in scoring, with 11.6 points per game, and is second in rebounding, with 5.2 a game. He scored a season-high 28 points against Chapman College Jan. 12 and led the team in rebounding in four of the month’s seven games.

O’Hara leads the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. in rebounding with an average of 11.5 rebounds in six conference games. For the season, she is averaging 12.3 points and 11.7 rebounds.

Northridge Pony League Tryouts

The Canoga Park-Northridge Pony Baseball League will hold tryouts Feb. 23-24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its field on Wilbur Avenue at Parthenia Street in Northridge.

Athletes can register for the league from 12-7 p.m. every day at Batters Up batting cages on Saticoy Street in Canoga Park.

All age divisions are open, and there is a registration fee of $60.

In the Running at Times Meet

Three members of the Cal State Northridge men’s track team will compete in the Kodak/Los Angeles Times Indoor Games on Friday at the Forum.

Cross-country All-American John Spillman will run in the 3,000 meters, while Aaron Buckholtz and Rick Weyers are entered in the 35-pound weight throw. Sprinter Gary Jackson is an alternate in the 60-meter dash.

CSUN Gymnasts Take On Stanford

Coming off a record-breaking team performance, the Cal State Northridge women’s gymnastics team travels to Northern California this weekend for a dual meet and an important Division II invitational.

The Lady Matadors broke a school record with a team mark of 171.95 in a triangular meet against UC Santa Barbara and British Columbia University last weekend.

CSUN meets Stanford in a dual meet Friday night before taking part in the Chico Jamboree on Saturday. The competition at Chico State features all of the gymnastics teams that will compete for a berth March 16 in the Division II Western Regional.
