The Dec. 1-24 holiday season saw a drop in crime in Culver City, according to Police Chief Ted Cooke.

Cooke attributed the drop in part to the deployment of extra patrol cars in several shopping areas, including Fox Hills Mall, Fox Hills Plaza, Raintree Plaza, Studio Village and Culver Center.

Just before the holiday season, three new retail outlets, National Lumber, Target and Best stores opened in the Studio Village Shopping Center, drawing many additional shoppers.

Crimes directly affecting purchasers, such as thefts of cars and their contents, assaults and robberies were down 26% from 1983 figures. The department reported a total of 60 arrests in the shopping center areas during the period from Dec. 1 through Dec. 24.
