NBA Roundup : Bullets Beat Pistons in 2 Overtimes

Frank Johnson made a rare four-point play with seven seconds left in the second overtime to send the Washington Bullets past the Detroit Pistons, 128-126, Thursday night at Landover, Md.

Johnson, who scored 12 points, added a free throw with three seconds left after Detroit’s John Long was called for traveling, and Washington prevented the Pistons from climbing within two games of Milwaukee in the Central Division.

Long, who scored 28 points, later had an inbounds pass knocked out of bounds by Washington’s Gus Williams with one second left, and Darren Daye deflected a final inbounds pass away from Detroit’s Terry Tyler.

Detroit’s Isiah Thomas had 25 points, 24 assists and 10 rebounds. His three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the first overtime tied it, 116-116.

Washington, which snapped a four-game losing streak, overcame a 97-91 deficit in the final 2:10 of regulation as Williams sank three three-pointers and Malone one.

Jeff Malone scored 30 points for Washington, Gus Williams had 27 and Tom McMillen 23.

Atlanta 94, Milwaukee 91--Dominique Wilkins hit a short base-line jumper with 55 seconds left in overtime and Rickey Brown hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to lift the Hawks past the Bucks at Milwaukee.

The Hawks rallied from a 71-48 deficit late in the third quarter to break a three-game losing streak and hand Milwaukee a third successive defeat after 11 straight victories.

Portland 133, New York 122--Kiki Vandeweghe scored 27 points, rookie Sam Bowie added 24 and Mychal Thompson had 23 as the Trail Blazers made a team-record 53 of 64 free throws to beat the Knicks at Portland.

Bernard King had 40 points for the Knicks.

Cleveland 108, Chicago 99--World B. Free scored 18 of his 29 points in the third quarter as the Cavaliers built a 19-point lead and then held off the Bulls at Richfield, Ohio, for a third victory in four games.

Michael Jordan scored 23 points for the Bulls.

Utah 114, Kansas City 96--Adrian Dantley scored 34 points and Darrell Griffith added 27 at Kansas City as the Jazz handed the Kings their 12th defeat in 15 games.

Larry Drew scored 21 points for the Kings, but the Jazz held Eddie Johnson, averaging 24.1, to just 6.

Houston 112, Golden State 105--Ralph Sampson had 42 points and 15 rebounds, and Rodney McCray added 25 points as the Rockets beat the Warriors at Houston.
