Santa Ana : Council Resolves to Help Find Location for New High School

Share

The City Council has adopted a resolution to help the school district find a new high school site.

Dave Ream, the city’s community development director, said a new high school is needed because of a student population “explosion” in the area generally bordered by Grand Avenue and Main Street on the east and west, and 17th Street and Warner Avenue on the north and south.

Unlike most Orange County school districts, Santa Ana Unified School District has experienced enrollment increases in recent years. (The neighboring Garden Grove Unified School District, which also serves a portion of Santa Ana, registered a slight increase in enrollment this year, reversing a long downward slide.)

Resolutions passed by the city and school district project a 13% to 14% population increase within the next five years, and call for semiannual meetings of the school board and council. They also call for quarterly meetings between the city manager and school district superintendent.
