Encinitas
A heavy equipment operator from Encinitas was hospitalized Tuesday for a gunshot wound to the shoulder after his wife mistook him for a burglar, sheriff’s investigators said. George G. Frazier, 49, was reported in fair condition late Tuesday at Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas. Investigators said Sandra K. Frazier, 47, was awakened about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday by what she described as the sound of a slamming or crashing door. Fearing a break-in, she armed herself with a .38-caliber pistol. Frazier told detectives that she saw a moving shadow and yelled a warning to stop. When the shadow continued moving, Frazier fired, striking her husband once in the shoulder, investigators said. She then telephoned sheriff’s deputies and paramedics.
