Sea View League : Clements Scores Season-High 41 for Estancia

Estancia High School senior Scott Clements scored a season-high 41 points to lead the Eagles to a 74-52 Sea View League victory over Costa Mesa at Estancia.

Clements, the Eagle captain, missed the school record, set by Steve Van Horn, by one point. Estancia Coach Joe Reid took Clements out of the game with less than three minutes to play, unaware that his 6-foot 3-inch forward was within a point of tying the record.

“Had I known (of the record) I would have, of course, kept him in,” Reid said.

Clements scored 14 points in the first quarter, 15 in the second, 2 in the third and 8 in the fourth. He was 9 for 9 at the free throw line.

Saddleback 80, University 54--Bryant Walton scored a game-high 27 points, including 20 in the first half, and brother Mark added 16 as the host Roadrunners routed the Trojans.

Saddleback, which finished in fourth place in league with an 8-6 record, led, 42-25, at halftime and wasn’t challenged in the second half. Brad Arnold led University (1-13) with 24 points.

Fryer also had seven rebounds. Senior center Steve Morris added 14 points and 5 rebounds for Corona del Mar.

Newport Harbor 92, Woodbridge 58--The Sailors celebrated their Sea View League championship as every player scored in the lopsided win at Woodbridge.

Forward Rob Mase led the scoring parade with 24 points, point guard Chuck McGavran had 19 assists and 18 points and forward Alan Fraser had 12 rebounds for Newport Harbor. The Sailors held only a six-point lead at halftime but utilized a full-court press to score 53 points in the second half.
