San Diego
A 19-year-old East San Diego man has surrendered to police and is being held for investigation of attempted murder in the stabbing of Christopher Valva, who suffered a near-fatal knife wound in the heart, police said. Kenny Lamont Sexton turned himself in on Friday and is being held in the downtown County Jail without bail, said Detective Dudley Williams. During questioning by police, Sexton allegedly admitted to committing the Feb. 1 stabbing, but he claimed Valva provoked a fight, Williams said. Although Valva was clinically dead when he was brought to Mercy Hospital’s trauma unit Feb. 1, doctors performed surgery on his punctured heart, aorta and lung and is listed in fair condition at the hospital.
