College Baseball : Cal State L.A. Scores 7 in 10th to Beat Aztecs

Cal State Los Angeles scored seven runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat San Diego State, 13-6, at Smith Field on Friday afternoon.

A bases-loaded grounder by Paul Newman broke a 6-6 tie in the 10th. Shawn Doyle and John Eldred had two-run singles in the Golden Eagle rally.

Eldred had five RBIs and hit a home run in the eighth inning. Right fielder Tim Neff had two hits and three RBIs for CSLA, while center fielder Mike Moore had four hits and scored three runs.

First baseman Mark Grace had two hits for San Diego State.

Jose Estrada was the winning pitcher. Richard Holsman (0-1) took the loss. The Aztecs (10-4) entered the game the nation’s 12th-ranked Division 1 team.

In other action:

University of San Diego 9, Southern Utah State 3--Tom Seyler pitched the Toreros’ first complete game of the year. Seyler, who allowed just one earned run, picked up his third win in four decisions.

First baseman Sean Baron and right fielder Quinn Reilly had three hits apiece for USD. Baron had a homer, double and triple, scored twice and drove in two runs. Reilly had two RBIs and scored twice.

Dave Draper was the loser for Southern Utah (0-2). USD is 4-10-1.
