Two young brothers were struck by a camper Saturday afternoon as they walked along Fairview Street in Garden Grove. One was killed and the other seriously injured.
According to police Sgt. Joe Johnson, the camper, driven by a U-Haul employee, was pulling out of a U-Haul parking lot. The driver was waiting to turn onto Fairview Street when he saw the boys, who stopped to let him pass. The driver told police that he checked traffic and pulled out, but the boys evidently proceeded in front of the vehicle.
Daniel Joseph Weaver, 8, was taken to the emergency room of the UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died. Mathew Jason Weaver, 10, was taken to the Garden Grove Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
No charges have been filed, Johnson said, but the incident is still under investigation.
