Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Lakers, the all-time top scorer in the NBA, once had hopes of starring in another sport.

Kareem, a native of New York, rooted for the Brooklyn Dodgers when he was a youngster. “Jackie Robinson was my idol,” he said.

“I had hopes of replacing Gil Hodges at first base or Duke Snider in center field,” he added. “Those were only dreams but to me at the time they were big dreams.”
