Former fugitive attorney Stephen Bingham pleaded innocent in San Rafael to charges of murder and conspiracy involving the alleged smuggling of a gun into San Quentin Prison in 1971 just before a breakout attempt in which inmate George Jackson, two other prisoners and three guards were killed. Bingham, who gave up after hiding for 13 years, will face trial Sept. 3. He is free on $300,000 bond.
