A high-speed chase after a hit-and-run accident early Thursday morning ended with one person dead and two others injured. Dead is Sheila Massengale, 23, of San Diego, a passenger in a pickup truck driven by Danielle M. Chambers, 25, also of San Diego. California Highway Patrol spokesman Gary Sharpe said Chambers was involved in an accident at Kurtz and Rosecrans streets at 1:25 a.m. Chambers then fled the scene, pursued by the driver of the other car, Kathleen Hollis, 26, of San Diego, Sharpe said. According to the CHP, Chambers was driving at high speeds when she attempted to exit I-5 at Pershing Drive and she lost control of the truck, causing it to fly through the air and roll several times onto the freeway. Chambers sustained moderate injuries in the accident and is listed in stable condition at the Balboa Park Navy Hospital. She was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and hit and run. Another passenger in the truck, Otis Crawford, 25, of Lansing, Mich., sustained major injuries and was taken to University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition with head and neck injuries. Massengale was pronounced dead at the scene.
