Kaypro agreed not to coerce its dealers.

In return, an antitrust suit filed by state Atty. Gen. John Van de Kamp against the Solana Beach, Calif.-based computer maker was dropped. The suit alleged that Kaypro had threatened the dealership status of retailers who sold Kaypro personal computers for less than the suggested retail price. It also accused the company of barring dealers from selling to discount outlets and of prohibiting mail-order sales for less than the suggested retail price. Although Kaypro is not required to admit liability, the agreement calls for it to pay the state $7,500 in civil penalties and $12,000 in court costs. Kaypro officials declined to comment on the settlement.
