NEPTUNE, N.J. — Six persons, including four children, were killed in two separate house fires early Sunday in this town and in Fort Lee, officials said.
Smoking in bed was believed to have caused the fire in Fort Lee that killed a 45-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son. The cause of the other fire that claimed the lives of a 47-year-old woman, her year-old daughter and her two sons, ages 4 and 14, was under investigation.
Two firefighters and four other residents of the house were injured in the Neptune blaze.
