Students’ Trip to Disneyland On Again

Until Monday night, it looked like the eighth-graders at Fountain Valley’s Vista View School might miss their graduation field trip.

Someone had entered the school offices at 16250 Hickory St. last Thursday night or Friday morning and stolen 160 Disneyland passes, along with about $1,000 in cash and checks, police said.

By Tuesday, however, all but $100 in cash and two of the $2,000 worth of Magic Kingdom tickets had been recovered at a Fountain Valley home, where a parent found them and phoned police. Detectives said three teen-age boys were arrested on suspicion of burglary Monday night and released to their parents.

Sgt. Patrick Zehner said the 158 Disneyland tickets were recovered at the home and after extensive further investigation, the rest of the property also was found.

The youths lived in a neighborhood near the school, according to Fountain Valley police Detective Mike Becker.

The suspects--a 14-year-old Ocean View High School student and two 16-year-olds from Fountain Valley High School and Wintersburg Continuation School in Huntington Beach--did not force their way into the school, which teaches grades kindergarten through eight, Becker said.

School keys that the youths somehow obtained were used to enter the principal’s office, he added.
