Cal Gets 6 Runs in 9th, 6 in 12th to Beat UCLA

Jeff Weiss hit a grand-slam homer with two outs in the top of the ninth to give California an 11-11 tie with UCLA, and the Bears scored six runs in the top of the 12th Saturday for a 17-11 victory in a Pacific 10 Southern Division baseball game at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

The Bears, 4-3 in conference play and 22-11 overall, needed six runs to tie the game after trailing, 11-5, in the ninth inning. UCLA, 5-8 in league action and 17-13-1 overall, scored all 11 of its runs in the first six innings.

Six UCLA pitchers allowed 13 hits and gave up 16 walks. Cal also used six pitchers. Andy Wortham was the winning pitcher, while Neal Newns was handed the loss.
