Hospital Baby Unit Approved: The state Health Services Department has approved Fountain Valley Community Hospital’s license application for an eight-bed intensive care unit for newborn babies, hospital officials said. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is under construction, with completion slated for late spring. More than 300 babies are born each month in the Women and Children’s Hospital of Orange County, a division of Fountain Valley Community Hospital. Hospital Administrator Craig G. Myers said the expansion is in keeping with the growing community served by the facility. Fountain Valley Community Hospital opened in 1971 with a license for 100 beds. The new authorization will bring the total beds to 287. The hospital is the fourth largest in Orange County, and, as a regional trauma center, handles 40% of the county’s trauma cases.
