Northern Japan Islands Shaken by 6.8 Quake

TOKYO —
A strong earthquake shook the northern Japanese islands of Honshu and Hokkaido early today, the Central Meteorological Agency reported. Police said there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The quake, centered about 300 miles north of Tokyo, was recorded at 6.8 on the Richter scale, Japanese authorities reported. It was the second strong earthquake in northern Japan in three days.
